can you help me with this? knitting a vest?


An easy pattern knit in stockinette stitch with a color changing yarn. Four sizes for women.

Gauge:
19 sts and 24 rows=4″ in St st

Materials:
Taos by Crystal Palace Yarns
3 (3, 4, 4) balls color#11 Two Gray Hills
100% wool
128 yards/118 meters
50 grams/1.75 ounces
Size 8 US (5 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 8 US (5 mm) 35″ circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Size F-5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook

Sizes:
S (M, L, XL)
Equivalent Finished Chest Measurements:
36 (40, 44, 48) inches

i dont understand any of it

Take this information with you to a local yarn store, show it to a sales clerk and they will help you purchase what you need. You will be able to substitute yarns if you want and they will be able to help you do this.

Basically the pattern is calling for a specific type of yarn by a certain manufacturer, and it’s telling you how much yarn you need to buy to complete your project. It’s also telling you what size knitting needles and crochet hook you will need in order to make the project.

The needle size is only a starting point, you will need to work up a swatch and see if you knit to gauge, if not you will need to change your needle size. Gauge is very important or your vest won’t fit.

You might also ask if they have a knitting class you can take, or a knitting group you can join so you can learn how to read pattern instructions and get the help you need to complete your project. Once you finish your first big project and it turns out perfect you’ll have the confidence to keep knitting more and more. If it doesn’t turn out right you might get discouraged and give up.
